Found a Stray Dog or Cat?

If you have found a stray then we would advise the following course of action, depending on whether your pet is a Dog, Cat or Other species.

Cats

Flintshire, Wrexham, Chester & Ellesmere Port - Capriocorn Animal Rescue on 01244 547938

Colwyn Bay - RSPCA on 0870 0101845

Dogs

As of  6 April 2008 the police are no longer responsible for dealing with stray dogs unless the stray can be considered a dangerous dog. Local authorities in England and Wales have been provided a total annual budget of £4 million to provide facilities to deal with stray dogs. Local authorities, during office hours, will be expected to collect dogs that are reported to them and accept any that are brought to them. Outside office hours local authorities will be expected, where practicable, to provide a place to which a stray dog can be taken and accepted into local authority care. Thus if you have found a stray dog we would suggest the following course of action:

Contact your local Dog warden. They normally operate from 9am to 5pm weekdays. The following list of phone numbers will hopefully be of use:

Chester - 01244 402304
